In a live interview of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on ESPN, Jones addressed the news of his $25,000 fine for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli. “I stepped out of bounds,” Jones said. “And [Commissioner Roger Goodell’s] doing his job.” We admire Jones’ public restraint, which he didn’t show when talking not once but twice about Hochuli. But we can’t help but wonder whether Jones privately is seething over the mixed signals that came from the league office in the wake of Hochuli’s blown call in the Week Two Chargers-Broncos game. Then again, as a commenter has pointed out, $25,000 is like pocket change to the rest of us.
