Josh Allen won battles against Laremy Tunsil “when it counted most”

Sunday’s critical win by the Jaguars over the Texans included 2.5 sacks from defensive end Josh Allen, including 1.5 sacks on the drive that ended with a field goal that just barely didn’t have enough leg on it.

After the game, Allen addressed the matchup that allowed him to deliver in the clutch.

He battled tackle Laremy Tunsil throughout the game. And Allen wanted it that way.

“I told him I want to do one on ones with you,” Allen told PFT by phone. “I told him I want to be on an island you and me one on one.”

Allen got want he wanted. He ultimately made a diference.

“He won a lot of those battles,” Allen said of Tunsil. “But I won the ones that counted.”

Allen explained that the goal in rushing quarterback C.J. Stroud was to approach him from the inside, because when Stroud sees someone in his face “he puts down his head and tries to scramble.” The inside moves affect Stroud’s vision, Allen said.

Stroud still had more than 300 yards passing and 47 yards rushing. But Allen and the Jaguars harassed him just enough to make the field goal try for overtime just far enough away to keep it from going through the crossbar, giving Jackson a two-game lead in the division with six weeks to go.
