Last week, Travis Kelce was in Hawaii while his representation and the Chiefs finalized a contract extension that will bring him more than $20 million in guaranteed money.
So, Kelce made sure to take some time out of his rigorous Pro Bowl preparation to celebrate.
“All I had was family and an open bar,” Kelce said Thursday on PFT Live. “We ended up having a good time.”
Life is good for one of the NFL’s best tight ends. Kelce set career highs with 72 receptions for 875 yards in 2015 and had five touchdown receptions for the second straight season.
“I’ve had a great relationship with everyone in Kansas City since I’ve been there,” Kelce said. “It felt natural to be able to call it home again, re-sign and keep this thing going.”
The 2015 Chiefs advanced to the second round of the playoffs after a 1-5 start. While Kelce admitted dealing with a hangover after losing to the Patriots -- but not after Hawaii -- he said the Chiefs feel good about their season.
“You kind of get caught up in losing that game, that we didn’t reach all of our goals like going to the Super Bowl and all that and it kind of looks like a disapointing year,” Kelce said. “But you take a step back and you look at the way we bounced back and finished the year as something to build off of.
“Just more hard work. There’s no magic formula to it.”
