Key Vikings look towards free agency

S. Rice1

Leslie Frazier will preside over a Vikings team that will look very different next year.

It’s not just about the quarterback position, where Joe Webb’s Week 17 performance dampened some excitement about his future. Some of Minnesota’s most talented young players are likely out the door:

Wideout Sidney Rice, via Tom Pelissero of espn1500.com : “We haven’t even discussed anything about contract or anything like that”

Defensive end Ray Edwards, from Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: “I’ve got to see what’s the best situation for me and my family.”

Chad Greenway: “Take a breath now and see what happens. I can’t really do much else.”

Tarvaris Jackson: “A fresh start may be good.”

These guys are only the start. Nine starters and 22 players overall including linebacker Ben Leber are unsigned heading into next year. Other players like wide receiver Bernard Berrian could be cut, although he says he expects to be back.

It was definitely a tough year for the team, it was tough year personally,” Berrian said via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

This a team in serious transition with a lot of hard decisions to make. The tough times may only be starting.
