Kubiak is being deliberately coy about his quarterback, again

With the Broncos having three candidates to become the Week One starter, coach Gary Kubiak wisely isn’t showing his hand.

As explained by Mike Klis of 9news.com in Denver, Kubiak is simply doing what he did last year, keeping everyone guessing because that keeps each and every opponent guessing.

Klis believes that Mark Sanchez will be the starter when the regular season begins. But the real question becomes whether he’ll hold that job, and for how long? Routinely, the winner of a quarterback competition wins the privilege of being the first guy to be benched. That’s precisely what could happen to Sanchez -- or to Trevor Siemian. Or both.

The least likely guy to be benched would be rookie Paxton Lynch, which could be why Kubiak has apparently put the first-rounder at the bottom of the depth chart. It’s one thing to use a revolving-door approach with Sanchez and Siemian. Playing and benching and playing and benching Lynch could be detrimental to his long-term development.

So don’t be surprised if it’s Sanchez for as long as the Broncos are winning with Sanchez on the field, followed by Siemian, for as long as the Broncos win with Sanchez on the field. Lynch could be the last resort for 2016, with the understanding that once Lynch is the guy, he’s “the guy” for the rest of the year, barring injury or abject disaster.

Through it all, Kubiak will be confident that things will work out, because the team won a Super Bowl last season with a passing game that was at times an abject disaster.
