Lance Briggs has spent 12 seasons terrorizing opposing offenses for the Chicago Bears but his time in the Windy City may be coming to a close.
According to Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times, Briggs believes this will be his final season with the Bears.
“It’s the last year of my deal,” Briggs said.. “It’s not like I’m going to magically show up after this year and they’re going to open the gates up for you.
“I know the reality of it and I’m proud of all the years I’ve had here. It’s been great. I couldn’t have asked for a better situation.”
Briggs is a three-time All-Pro selection and seven-time Pro Bowler with the Bears. He’s only played in five games this year for Chicago while battling a rib injury that forced him to miss three games prior to the Bears’ bye week. Sunday’s game against Green Bay would be the 171st game of his career and 22nd regular season game against the Packers.
Briggs said he didn’t know if his last year with the Bears would be his last season in the NFL. Ultimately, that depends on if anyone else will offer him a contract as well. As Brian Urlacher - one of Briggs’ former teammates - found out a couple of years ago, that isn’t always a given for a productive, yet aging, linebacker.
