Cornerback Leon Hall took a visit with the Giants on Wednesday, but he waited until Thursday to sign with the team.
The Giants announced that Hall has accepted an offer to join the team for the 2016 season. Hall was also talking to the Bengals about returning to the team that made him a first round pick in 2007 and had employed him for his entire career, but Cincinnati will have to look elsewhere for help at corner.
Hall is the third high-profile addition to the cornerback corps for the Giants since the end of last season. He joins Janoris Jenkins and top draft pick Eli Apple as newcomers in the secondary and is part of sweeping changes made to the defensive personnel as a whole after last year’s poor performance.
Hall will likely wind up in the slot with Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie playing outside while Apple acclimates himself to the NFL. On paper, it is a significant improvement over what defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had to work with last season.
The Giants waived cornerback Tramain Jacobs to make room for Hall.
