Running back LeSean McCoy said last week that he was told he’d need 3-4 weeks to recover from the hamstring injury that’s plagued him since camp and kept him out of the last two games for Buffalo, a timeline that left open the possibility that he’ll be out through the team’s bye in Week Eight.

McCoy added that he hoped to beat that prognosis and he took a step toward doing that on Wednesday. Bills practice opened with the running back in uniform and taking part in drills. Coach Rex Ryan said earlier in the day that McCoy would be a limited participant in the session and made no guesses about when he would be able to play in a game, a decision that’s sure to be given a lot of thought given how long McCoy’s been dealing with the hamstring issue.

Tyrod Taylor was also on the field for the Bills when their practice session got underway. Ryan said Wednesday morning that it was premature to say that Taylor would miss this week’s game against the Bengals, although he added later, via the Buffalo News, that EJ Manuel will be getting the majority of the reps on Wednesday.

Running back Karlos Williams remains out with a concussion and wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who has missed two games with a calf injury, is practicing.
