Lions add some defensive line depth with Corey Wootton

Wootton

The Lions added some experience to their defensive line Thursday, with a guy who has plenty of NFC North experience.

According to his agent, free agent defensive end Corey Wootton is joining the Lions on a one-year deal.

Wootton spent last year with the Vikings, but his previous four with the Bears. He has 12.0 career sacks, with 7.0 of them coming with the Bears in 2012.

He’s versatile enough to rush from inside or outside, and should help a line that saw defections big and small this offseason. While defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh going to Miami was the headline move, they also lost defensive tackle Nick Fairley and defensive end George Johnson, cutting into the depth they had assembled.

Wootton worked out for the Lions earlier this week, after previous visits with the Jaguars, Saints and Titans.
