The Lions signed cornerback Darius Slay to a four-year extension, and he might not be the only player General Manager Bob Quinn inherited to cash in before the start of the season.
Via Justin Rogers of the Detroit News, Quinn said he was talking to the representatives of a number of players, though he said he didn’t think anything was imminent.
“Right now, we’re not really close to any of those guys,” Quinn said. “Those things do change. I might get a call tonight that changes everything.”
The Lions have a number of guys they’d like to keep, particularly from the 2013 draft class which included running back Theo Riddick, defensive end Devin Taylor, guard Larry Warford and punter Sam Martin.
The Lions also have 2012 first-rounder Riley Reiff to deal with, as he’s working on the fifth-year extension of his rookie contract.
But Quinn’s also new enough on the job that he doesn’t want to set a deadline for contract talks, saying he was willing to talk to players into the season.
