Lions remain without Louis Delmas, Chris Houston at practice

The Lions’ chances of having their ideal starting secondary on the field Sunday aren’t looking good.

Safety Louis Delmas and cornerback Chris Houston missed practice again on Friday, which makes it very hard to believe that they will be in the lineup when the Lions face the Rams. Chris McCosky of the Detroit News goes even further and wonders if their total absence this week means that they’re on track to miss a second straight game.

We’ll cross that bridge if we get to it. For now, the Lions will be left starting John Wendling at safety and some combination of Bill Bentley, Drayton Florence and Jacob Lacey at corner. They didn’t get a terrible draw in terms of the schedule, at least based on the Rams’ passing offense last season, but it’s still a troubling situation for a team that wasn’t very good in pass defense last season.

The Lions will release their official injury report on Friday afternoon. We’ll see if Delmas and Houston are ruled out at that point or if the team holds onto a little hope for their two defensive backs.
