The Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Keary Colbert and placed wide receiver Mike Furrey on injured reserve. Furrey missed the last three games with a concussion, but he said he feels fine now and he is upset that the Lions decided to end his season. “This is the way they want to go,” Furrey told the Detroit Free Press. “I’m 100% right now, and I’ll be getting ready for next year next week.” Lions General Manager Martin Mayhew said the Lions were acting in Furrey’s best interests, even though Furrey might not think so. “We made this move to protect Mike and to do what’s best for this football team,” Mayhew said. “... Over the past few weeks, Mike made several attempts to participate in practice in hopes of returning to the field, but each time he removed himself from practice when dizziness or nausea, related to the concussion, occurred.” Furrey said he just wants to get back on the field. “It’s crazy,” Furrey said. “So I feel bad. Detroit’s been good to me, and this whole situation’s just, it’s disappointing. I just want to play football. Whether it’s here or wherever, that’s all I want to do.” Furrey caught 18 passes for 181 yards this season. The Lions will be Colbert’s third team this season; he previously played for the Broncos and Seahawks this year after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Panthers.
