Matt Cassel won’t play tonight

If you plan to dial up ESPN at the top of the hour to see Buffalo quarterback Matt Cassel, keep dialing.

Via Adam Benigni of NBC affiliate WGRZ-TV in Buffalo (I’d link his tweet but he’s blocked PFT for reasons neither known nor apparent), Cassel won’t play tonight. But, unlike five running backs and three receivers, it has nothing to do with Cassel’s health. The Bill want to get an extended look at starter (for tonight) Tyrod Taylor and former starter EJ Manuel.

While some believe Taylor could win the starting job tonight, the real question is whether Taylor will do enough to earn the start in the third preseason game. Whatever Taylor does, Cassel won’t have a chance to offer a rebuttal tonight.
