Late last month, there was a report that the Steelers expected center Maurkice Pouncey to miss the first 10 games of the season with the broken fibula he suffered in a preseason game against the Packers.
Pouncey will definitely be missing the first eight games of the season. The Steelers placed Pouncey on injured reserve with the designation to return on Sunday. That leaves him ineligible to play for the first eight weeks of the regular season and the Steelers don’t have their bye until Week 11, so it may be Week 12 in Seattle when we next see Pouncey on the field.
In a move that wasn’t hard to see coming, the Steelers re-signed Doug Legursky to take Pouncey’s spot on the roster. Legursky was with the team since Pouncey got hurt until getting released on Saturday and he spent the first four years of his career in Pittsburgh, which means there won’t be much of a problem getting comfortable in the locker room.
Legursky will back up Cody Wallace for the Steelers, who will be missing running back Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver Martavis Bryant in addition to Pouncey when they open the season on Thursday night.
