The Patriots have lost one of their best defensive lineman Mike Wright to a season-ending concussion for a second straight year. The team signed defensive back Philip Adams to take his place.
Wright missed the last two months of last season after suffering repeated concussions and not being able to shake their effects. He suffered another concussion in Week One last year.
Wright returned to practice last week, but clearly wasn’t ready to play again. He led or tied for the team lead in sacks the last two years, with 10.5 combined in 2009-2010. He joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2005.
It’s fair to wonder if the concussion issues threaten the rest of Wright’s career.
