Minimum occupancy for ‘Lights Out’ dance?

Well, you only have yourselves to blame, Chargers fans. Linebacker Shawne Merriman tweeted today that he didn’t do his “dance” last night when he entered the stadium because there weren’t enough of you in attendance.

“I didnt do the dance when i came out the tunnel last night because it wasnt enough people there remember i get my energy from YALL!! ...it was was 46k people there and Our stadium holds over 70k”

One presumes Merriman was referring to his patented “Lights Out” dance, the one that looks more like a man miming electrocution than turning off the lights. But what do we know?

The more important question is, why were the Chargers fans who did show up punished so severely by Merriman? Isn’t it important - nay, VITAL - that players understand the economic constraints we’re all feeling and not act so rashly.

The loss of the Lights Out dance, of course, is the most penal aspect of decreased attendance at NFL games. That and local TV blackouts. They’re right up there together.
