What’s that? The Boston Herald? Wrong about a story regarding the Patriots? Inconceivable. Contrary to a Herald report that Browns owner Randy Lerner gave Pats V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli a Thursday deadline for accepting an offer to take over the football operation in Cleveland, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that no deadline exists. Cabot also reports that Pioli will interview with the Chiefs for their vacant G.M. position. Though it’s impossible for us to know who’s right and who’s wrong absent an on-the-record declaration by Lerner that there is or isn’t a Thursday deadline, time will tell. If Pioli doesn’t take the job on Thursday and if he remains a candidate on Friday, then the Plain Dealer is right and the Herald is wrong. Inconceivable.
