Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo told NBC SportsTalk on Friday that he’ll be wearing Kevlar on Monday night to provide additional protection to his broken rib.
The pregame shows are all over it, including Dan Marino hitting Boomer Esiason’s Kevlar-covered torso with a bat.
It also was reported that Eagles quarterback Mike Vick, a spokesman for the company that is manufacturing the Kevlar-enhanced gear, will wear the same vest. But as to the report that Vick will have Kevlar placed into his helmet, Jay Glazer of FOX reports that it won’t happen for Sunday, due to an apparent legal issue regarding the making of adjustments to a helmet made by Riddell.
Regardless of whether Kevlar is put into the helmet, the problem with concussions isn’t so much the trauma to the exterior of the head but the stuff that happens when the brain jostles against the inside of the skull, when the head stops or changing direction suddenly. No amount of protection on the outside of the skull will keep that from happening.
