Several months ago, Titans quarterback Vince Young declared that he’ll eventually land in Canton. In the Hall of Fame. Without having to buy a ticket.
At the time, it was laughable. Even now, with three straight wins after being inserted following a 6-0 start, the notion that Young eventually will compile Canton-worthy credentials seems even more far-fetched than the premise of V. (But, yeah, I still watch it.)
But Young isn’t the only one who envisions that he’ll eventually have a shirtless tequila party at Fawcett Stadium.
Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo thinks Young will make it, too.
“He’s a great quarterback and I’m glad that he got his opportunity again to go back and lead that team and you see what happens when you put a future Hall of Famer in the lineup,” Orakpo told Sporting News Radio’s The Monty Show.
Our pal Monty, presumably after a spit take, asked Orakpo whether he truly believes his former Texas teammate is a Hall of Famer.
“Yeah, I mean I really believe that because when I played with him . . . this guy has so much passion and he won so many games for us,” Orakpo said. “It’s the reason he got drafted so high because obviously he’s got a lot of talent and he just needs his time to shine.”
Based on what Young has done in the past three games, we’re not ready to write him off.
Besides, we don’t want to risk Titans owner Bud Adams giving us a double-barreled one-fingered salute for dissing his guy.
