Panthers sign third-rounder Irvin

NFL news will be dominated by Michael Vick for the rest of the day, but the rest of the league is continuing to go about their business.

The Gaston Gazette reports that the Panthers have signed third-round pick Corvey Irvin. The Georgia product will earn $2.42 million over four years, including a $670,000 signing bonus.

Irvin looks likely to be third in Carolina’s defensive tackle rotation behind starters Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis.

While most teams struggle to get their rookies to camp on time, the Panthers now have six days left to get their last unsigned pick under contract: second-rounder Sherrod Martin.

The Michael Vick news will dominate the NFL news the rest of Monday, but teams across the league are continuing to go about their business.

The Gaston Gazette reports that the Panthers signed third-round defensive tackle Corvey Irvin to a four-year contract Monday worth $2.42 million, including a $670,000 signing bonus.

The team has only one pick left unsigned, second-round cornerback Sherrod Martin.

Irvin, who played for two years at Georgia after transferring from Georgia Military College, is expected to be a backup as a rookie.

He could be third on the depth chart in Carolina behind Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis.
