Pennsylvania governor remains loyal to Donovan McNabb

The man who runs the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania periodically has strong feelings about the NFL team headquartered in Philadelphia. Governor Ed Rendell voices those feelings during the season as a game-day analyst for Comcast.

This offseason, Rendell also has had some strong feelings in relation to the trade that sent Donovan McNabb from the Eagles to the Redskins.

I think Donovan won,” Rendell said Thursday, per FOX 29. “He is the winningest quarterback in Eagles history when you look at our win and lost record. . . . And we are now going to see what the rest of the NFL lives with. I hope I’m wrong. Be careful what you wish for.”

But what about McNabb’s successor?
“I just think we have weakened our team,” Rendell said. “And no offense to Kevin Kolb. I hope I am wrong. I hope he is a winning NFL quarterback. But I don’t suspect next year he’s going to be able to step in and take us to the playoffs.”

Rendell also addressed criticism of his position that he’ll root for the Redskins if McNabb’s new team makes it to the playoffs and the Eagles don’t.

“I think that is crazy,” Rendell said. “Once we are out, what do we care? And they will get a worse draft choice if they make the playoffs.”

The entire debate is a natural consequence of the Eagles’ decision to trade McNabb in the division. It’s a decision we’ll never understand -- and it possibly will make an appearance in a certain feature in a certain season preview magazine regarding 10 certain ill-advised moves of the offseason.
