The Bears haven’t had very much good news, injury or otherwise, this season.

But there was a ray of hope at practice Friday morning, as pass-rusher Pernell McPhee was on the field with his teammates for the first time since January.

Via Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears opened the 21-day window to activate McPhee from the physically unable to perform list. He won’t play this week, but it’s at least a sign his recovery from offseason left knee surgery is positive.

The Bears could activate him any time between now and Nov. 4, or shut him down for the year if they don’t deem him ready by then.

McPhee signed a five-year, $38.75 million contract last offseason, and had five sacks and an interception in the first eight games before injuring his knee, which limited him the rest of the year.

Their other PUP-listed player, wide receiver Marquess Wilson, did not return to the practice field Friday. He’s still recovering from a broken left foot.
