The new name of the Bills stadium will drop the name of the team’s founder.
Known as Ralph Wilson Stadium since 1999, the venue in Orchard Park, New York will now be known as New Era Field only, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. As Carucci explains it, the decision to remove Wilson’s name completely from the stadium was aimed at not diminishing the value of the deal to New Era Cap Company.
It remains to be seen how local fans respond to the news. Some will surely bristle; others likely won’t care, either because they don’t care what the place is called or they will call it whatever they want to call it.
