Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is scheduled to have a CT scan of his collarbone this week as he continues his plot to recovery after breaking it twice during the regular season.
Romo said earlier in the offseason that having a plate surgically implanted in the collarbone was a possibility and said Saturday that he has “a pretty good idea” about which way that decision is going to go. On Sunday, Ed Werder of ESPN reported that the plan is to have the surgery.
Per Werder, the CT scan this week will determine whether the most recent break has healed enough to have the plate installed at this time. The recovery time from the surgery is expected to be 6-8 weeks, so the date the operation is performed would likely have a lot to do with whether Romo is ready for the start of offseason work.
If a later return to action means a higher likelihood of continued health during the 2016 season, it’s a trade off that neither Romo nor the Cowboys would have to think too long about making.
