New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas is a restricted free agent who hasn’t signed his one-year tender offer. But he’s expected to sign a much more lucrative deal this summer.
Peter King of SI.com reports that he’s heard reliably the Saints will lock up Thomas before training camp begins.
A couple of weeks ago Fox 8 in New Orleans reported that the Saints were making a long-term offer to Thomas, and all indications are that the team views him a a player it absolutely must have in the fold for years to come.
It will be interesting to see, however, just how much money the Saints will offer Thomas on a long-term deal. Although he’s a bigger part of the Saints’ offense than Reggie Bush is, the fact that Thomas was undrafted and Bush was the No. 2 overall pick probably means Bush will make more money than Thomas even after Thomas signs his second NFL contract.
