Originally listed as doubtful for Sunday night’s game at Minnesota with a concussion, Packers cornerback Sam Shields officially will miss the game.

Shields has been downgraded to out, after not making the trip to Minneapolis for the first regular-season game to be played at U.S. Bank Stadium.

As noted by Ryan Wood of USA Today, the fifth documented concussion of Shields’ career came on what seemed to be a routine hit last Sunday against the Jaguars. The circumstances suggest that, if the concussions continue, Shields at some point may have to make a tough decision about his football future.

With Shields out, the Packers have three true cornerbacks, as explained earlier in the week by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, and LaDarius Gunter. Safety Micah Hyde plays cornerback, too, covering receivers lined up in the slot.
