Jaguars rookie Dante Fowler was lost for the year when he tore his ACL at the team’s first rookie minicamp practice, robbing the team of their first-round pick in this year’s draft and a big piece of their pass rushing plans.
It also increased their need for defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks to make it back from his own torn ACL. Marks led the team with 8.5 sacks last season and his interior pressure was going to be important to the defense with Fowler in the lineup. It’s even bigger now and Marks said this week that he feels on track to be on the field for the regular season opener.
“I actually posted a video last week of going through the bags, just showing the progress,” Marks said this week, via the team’s website. “Five months, this month will be six months out, and I think we’re coming along with it. [I’m] not saying what’s exactly going to happen within the next two months, but I think I’m going to be pretty ready for it.”
The start of camp will provide more of an idea about how realistic that timeline is for Marks. He may still start camp on the PUP list, but a return to practice in the early part of August would be a good sign for the Jaguars defense.
