Robert Griffin III has taken a lot of criticism for his unwillingness or inability to slide down at the end of a run, but he broke out a slide that helped the Redskins in the third quarter.
Griffin slid down for a short loss on a third-and-one play in Vikings territory, but Vikings safety Harrison Smith was flagged for unnecessary roughness for hitting Griffin as he slid to the turf. The call did not appear to be a good one as Smith made incidental, if any, contact with Griffin while going over the Washington quarterback. The flag was thrown, however, and the Redskins scored on a 13-yard pass to DeSean Jackson on the next play.
That touchdown drive came after the Vikings briefly took a 14-10 lead after a drive that was also helped by a penalty. Minnesota picked up 15 yards when Keenan Robinson was flagged for roughing Teddy Bridgewater and the Vikings used those yards to help them get in position for a Matt Asiata touchdown.
