Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor will be a free agent in two weeks.
But he won’t be ready to start working out in advance of the 2010 season for three months.
According to Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Taylor recently underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery. His agent, Gary Wichard, said that it will be “three months or so” until Taylor can resume workouts.
Taylor, who wanted out of Miami two years ago and then returned in 2009 after being cut by the Redskins after declining to tie money to participation in offseason workouts, hopes to come back for another year.
Neither the Dolphins nor any other team need to make a final decision in the short term, given that Taylor will be on the shelf until May. So unless someone decides they’ve got to get Taylor under contract ASAFP, it would be a surprise if he’s part of the early free-agency signing rush.
And that’s likely fine with Taylor, who if he plays things right will avoid the bulk of an offseason program for the third straight year.
