The minicamps that start tomorrow are mandatory, at least for the players with contracts.
Thus, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul isn’t going to be working with his teammates, despite coach Tom Coughlin’s expectations to the contrary.
According to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, Pierre-Paul “does not plan to practice” this week.
He hasn’t signed his franchise tender yet (like Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant or Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston) so he’s not obligated to attend the workouts that are required for everyone else.
While there’s a possibility he’ll show up and hang around (as Bryant has at some OTAs), he’s not going to step on the field with his contract situation up in the air.
The Giants have until July 15 to reach a long-term deal for the 26-year-old pass-rusher. If they can’t, he’d make $14.813 million this year under the tag.
