Some 49ers ticket prices more than triple

We noted in today’s one-liners that a marketing study conducted recently found that some San Francisco 49ers tickets were far too cheap.

The 49ers are changing that, with some tickets more than tripling in price.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that some tickets previously known as field-box seats are going way, way up in price. The 49ers justify the increase by noting that while the seats are in the same place in the stadium, starting in 2010 they will offer a pre-game field pass, food and drinks, premier parking and seat cushions.

Some fans wish they had the option of paying the old price without all the amenities.

“In this economy, I don’t know what they’re thinking,” said San Jose resident Jon Olson, whose invoice for seven seats and parking jumped from $5,475 to $19,039. “It seems like they’re just irrevocably out of touch with their fan base.”

Olson said he’s canceling his tickets after 15 years. But unless a lot of other season-ticket holders follow his lead, those prices won’t be going down.
