If Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has to pinpoint one difference between the NFL and college football, it’s that he can’t pick on slow linebackers anymore.
Luck said on Mike and Mike in the Morning that from his very first day as a pro, he noticed that linebackers in the NFL are a whole different ballgame from linebackers in college.
“The first play you notice it,” Luck said. “I think the biggest difference is the linebackers. They’re fast and they can run. In college you’ve got tight ends who can run right past the linebackers, but that’s not happening in this league.”
Luck also noted, however, that the quality of play in the NFL is a lot better with his teammates as well.
“Everybody’s better, the corners, the safeties, the defensive linemen,” he said. “But then, you’re surrounded with better players on your side of the ball.”
For Luck to have a chance of success as a rookie, the Colts are going to need more good players on his side of the ball than they had a year ago.
