An 89-yard punt return for a touchdown that helped the Eagles get their first win of the season last Sunday brought Darren Sproles the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award on Wednesday.
The 89-yard return was a career long for Sproles and gave the Eagles a 10-0 lead over the Jets. It was his sixth career punt return touchdown and eclipsed his previous career long of 82 yards last year vs. the 49ers.
This is the fifth player of the week award for Sproles and his fourth special teams player of the week award. He’s won four player of the week awards since joining the Eagles in 2014; only Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has won more in that time. Rodgers was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week Wednesday.
