Steelers put Max Starks on injured reserve

The season is over for Steelers left tackle Max Starks.

The Steelers announced today that Starks has been placed on injured reserve with a neck injury suffered in Monday night’s game against the Bengals.

Starks will need surgery, but he expects to be back for the start of the 2011 season.

With Starks out, the Steelers are expected to insert Jonathan Scott at left tackle. If Scott isn’t up to the task, other options include moving Flozell Adams from the right to the left, or moving starting right guard Trai Essex to left tackle and having backup Doug Legursky take Essex’s spot at right guard.

Starks’ spot on the roster will be taken by rookie fifth-round draft pick Chris Scott, an offensive tackle who has been activated from the physically unable to perform list.
