Steelers stay alive

Written off after losing to the Browns in Cleveland more than two weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won two straight games at home, and they now remain in the thick of things for an AFC wild-card berth.

The Steelers held off the Ravens at home on Sunday, 23-20.

The win came after the Steelers saw their 20-10 halftime lead quickly evaporate in the third quarter, and after the Ravens had multiple chances to take control of the game. Untimely penalties and an uncharacteristic drop in the end zone by Derrick Mason left the score knotted.

A 38-yard field goal from Jeff Reed with 5:30 to play gave the Steelers a three-point edge, and a fumble by Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco on fourth and 10 from the Pittsburgh 38 sealed the win.

The outcome leaves the Steelers and Ravens tied at 8-7. The Texans also are at 8-7. The Broncos would fall to 8-7 if they lose at Philly, and the Jets would climb to 8-7 if they beat the Colts.

If the Steelers and Ravens finish with the same record, Baltimore would hold an edge in the head-to-head tiebreaker, due to a superior division record, 3-3 vs. 2-4.
