Terrell Suggs remains sidelined

It’s taking much longer than Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs expected to recuperate from a minor Achilles’ tendon injury and a bruised left heel.

After originally predicting that he would return in a few days, Suggs has been out for an entire week.

Although Suggs is no longer wearing a protective walking boot, he’s unsure of when he’ll be back and is considered questionable for the Ravens’ preseason opener Thursday night against the Washington Redskins.

“It’s getting better, but I don’t know,” Suggs said Saturday. “Every day I want to go try it, but it just ain’t ready yet. You don’t want to come back too early and then start missing games for something that started small and got bigger.”

Suggs signed a six-year, $62.5 million contract last month, a blockbuster deal that included $38 million in guaranteed money.

The Ravens aren’t inclined to rush their top pass rusher back onto the field before he’s ready, so it seems unlikely that he’ll play much, if at all, against the Redskins.

“I definitely want to be back for the Redskins because you want to get some live action,” Suggs said. “I’m going to keep trying to do it, but I don’t want to hurry back and mess it up more.

“It does hurt. When I press down on it, it hurts enough to keep me out of practice. It ain’t nothing that’s going to keep me out long.”
