In the early 1980s, Sylvester Stallone starred in a movie that was OK at the time but probably would seem really crappy if I were to watch it again now. (That sums up pretty much every Stallone move, with the exception of Rocky and Rocky II.) The movie was called “Night Hawks.”
I’ve never heard or considered the phrase in any other context. Until now.
The new UFL team to be headquartered in Omaha will be known as the “Nighthawks.”
We would have preferred “Steaks.”
Meanwhile, the Nighthawks will be holding open tryouts (tree-outs) on May 15. Something tells us Stallone would have an outside chance at making the cut.
