The Giants lost by another lopsided score in Kansas City on Sunday, falling to 0-4 for the first time since 1987 and leaving the team searching for answers about how they can avoid 12 more pastings the rest of the way.
Coach Tom Coughlin is starting with the offense. Although the whole second half, which saw the Giants give up 21 straight points to make a close game into a laugher, was a “debacle,” the coach was most upset with that unit.
“There’s no continuity whatsover. There’s no rhythm. There’s a play here and a play there,” Coughlin said in his postgame press conference. “We don’t make any first downs. Play calling is like throwing a dart at a board. There’s no real feel for the ball moving continuously down the field.”
Coughlin made it clear that he was not criticizing the play calling, but the inconsistency of the offensive performance. Still, the Giants offense has now scored seven points over the last eight quarters, a shocking bout of ineffectiveness for a unit that has a lot of talented players even with the offensive line in shambles. There clearly aren’t any easy or obvious solutions, but the Giants have to figure something out because this group of players shouldn’t be playing this badly for four straight weeks.
