Trevor Siemian to start third Broncos preseason game

The Denver Broncos are juggling three potential quarterbacks between Paxton Lynch, Trevor Seimen, and Mark Sanchez. Mike Florio discusses who might be best for the Broncos to start, and who may see time down the line.

Trevor Siemian will get another chance to start a preseason game for the Broncos.

Coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday that Siemian will be the first man under center against the Rams in a game that has traditionally been used as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. That would suggest that Siemian has some edge in the starting quarterback competition in Denver.

There are some complications, however. Kubiak said that Siemian has a sore shoulder as a result of an attempted tackle he made after throwing an interception against the 49ers and that it’s not clear yet whether he’ll be able to practice on Tuesday.

Kubiak also said that he wants Siemian, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch to play the same amount of time on Saturday night, but didn’t say whether Lynch or Sanchez would be the second quarterback into the game. Kubiak didn’t rule out any of the three winding up as the starter following the Rams game.

However things go on Saturday, Kubiak said he’ll pick a starter for Week One next week and bring an end to a competition unlike any conducted by a Super Bowl champ in recent memory.
