Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday that an NFL team contacted him earlier this year, but he relayed that he’s not interested in any other job.

Meyer spoke to reporters Wednesday at the Fiesta Bowl media day event. He did not share which NFL team made the inquiry.

Per the ASAP Sports transcript of Meyer’s comments, Meyer was then specifically asked if the team that reached out was the Cleveland Browns.

“I’m not going there,” Meyer said. “I’ll just say [a team] reached out.

“I really enjoy where I’m coaching and who I’m coaching. At this point, my son’s in high school. We’re where we need to be. I really love my athletic director. I think the future’s bright. We’re recruiting well. I’m very happy with where we’re at.

“The NFL, Chip Kelly is one of my closest friends, Greg Schiano is one of my closest friends. A lot of times they say college coaches don’t make it very well. I don’t know who makes it well. People are getting fired left and right. Pete Carroll has done very well.

“So I don’t know. I do get those questions sometimes. I don’t study it enough. I know that it’s not just college coaches that are struggling in the NFL.”

An early December rumor linking Meyer to the Browns gained enough steam that Meyer felt the need to issue a public denial. This makes two denials and seems to be all part of the game as the coaching rumor mill starts to spin.
