The Lions lost one of the game’s best big receivers to retirement, so they’re looking at another guy who can add some presence to their passing game.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, veteran free agent wideout Anquan Boldin is visiting Detroit today.
Boldin’s connection there comes from the time he spent in Baltimore when Lions head coach Jim Caldwell was an assistant there.
Boldin’s numbers dipped last year for the 49ers, but that can hardly be blamed on him. He had 69 catches for 789 yards and four touchdowns last year, but had topped 80 catches and 1,000 yards each of his previous two years with the 49ers.
While he might not replace Calvin Johnson, he’d give them a quality veteran option to go with Golden Tate and free agent pickup Marvin Jones.
Boldin said earlier this offseason he was in no hurry to find a new team (or wait for a decent offer), but it appears he’s now in the mood to seek employment.
