The 2010 season is over Vikings rookie cornerback Chris Cook.

The Vikings announced today that they’ve placed Cook on injured reserve. Minnesota took Cook with the 34th pick in this year’s NFL draft, a selection that took place after the Vikings traded down out of the first round -- and a selection that looked like a panicked move after the cornerback they really wanted, Kyle Wilson, was taken 29th overall.

Cook had an extensive injury history at Virginia and injury problems followed him to the Vikings. He has been limited to playing six games (starting five) because of meniscus tears in both knees. Now the Vikings will hope he can get healthy for 2011.

With the roster spot opened up by putting Cook on IR, the Vikings have moved tackle Thomas Welch from the practice squad to the active roster.
