Lolo Jones is taking a much-deserved break from track and field and bobsled competition these days, but she found herself at another sporting event Sunday.
She was an interested spectator at the United States Grand Prix Formula One race in Austin, Texas. NBC Sports caught up with Jones, who compared her experience meeting the racing pros and in the garage to the Olympics.
Track and field has qualifying, as does professional auto racing. Bobsleds are often designed by people or companies with auto racing backgrounds. Jones, 32, pushed a BMW sled at the Sochi Olympics to 11th place.
Jones is expected to return to track and field next season with an eye on her fourth Olympics in 2016. She won’t be getting behind the wheel of a race car.
“I like adrenaline rushes, but this is just a different element,” Jones said. “I would prefer to be in the stands.”
