Shaun White will miss the Winter X Games for the second time this millennium this weekend but is confirmed to compete at X Games Oslo in February, his coach said Thursday.
White, 29, was to participate at a competition in Switzerland last weekend but flew home the day after he arrived due to the death of a family friend, according to Red Bull and White’s social media.
The X Games halfpipe in Aspen, Colo., is Saturday night, featuring Olympic champion Iouri Podladtchikov of Switzerland and defending X Games champion Danny Davis, a 2014 U.S. Olympian.
The X Games Oslo halfpipe final is Feb. 26.
White, a two-time Olympic halfpipe champion, finished fourth at last year’s X Games and won the Dew Tour Mountain Championships on Dec. 12 in his two competitions since finishing fourth at the Sochi Winter Games.
White, 29, also missed the 2014 X Games in order to prepare for the Sochi Olympics.
White is an eight-time X Games halfpipe champion, his last title coming in 2013, and debuted at the event in 1999 as a 13-year-old.
