Live Coverage
STAMFORD, Conn. – May 8, 2019 – NBC Sports presents daily live coverage of the 2019 Amgen Tour of California, America’s only UCI WorldTour cycling race, beginning this Sunday, May 12, at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN and culminating with the Men’s and Women’s final stage on Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
NBC Sports Gold’s “Cycling Pass” will present commercial-free, daily live coverage. NBC Sports Gold’s 2018-19 “Cycling Pass” gives fans in the U.S. access to premiere cycling races through the 2019 spring cycling season, concluding in June.
NBC Sports Group’s cycling commentators Phil Liggett and Bob Roll will call the action, along with field reporter Steve Schlanger, and former Amgen Tour of California participant Christian Vande Velde. ‘Inside-the-Race’ correspondent Steve Porino will report from aboard a motorcycle on the course, offering updates on race situations. Jens Voigt, who had three career top-10 Amgen Tour of California finishes and is tied for the second-most Tour de France starts (17), returns for his fifth year as a featured analyst and reporter.
The Amgen Tour of California men’s course covers over 770 miles of mountain roads, highways and coastlines from Sacramento to Pasadena. Some of the sport’s greatest veteran sprinters are confirmed to race this year: 30-time Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) and Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe), winner of three career world titles and holder of the California race record for most stage wins (16). American Tejay van Garderen (EF Education First Pro Cycling), who won the race in 2013, Rigoberto Uran (EF Education First Pro Cycling), the 2017 Tour De France second-place finisher, and George Bennett (Team Jumbo - Visma), who won the 2017 Amgen Tour of California, will also participate.
The Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race empowered with SRAM kicks off in Ventura on May 16 and runs concurrently through the finish in Pasadena on May 18. The women’s route spans 177 miles over its three stages, marking the longest women’s race in event history. California-based reigning race champion Katie Hall (Boels Dolmans) will return for this year’s race, as will 2017 winner and 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist Anna Van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans).
In addition to the live coverage, NBCSN will also air daily race recaps, including a full hour and a half women’s race recap on Thursday, May 23.
