    Bears signed OT Shon Coleman.
Coleman, a cancer survivor who opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19, hasn’t played a regular season game since 2017 with the Browns. He was signed by the Niners in March 2020 after missing all of 2019 with an ankle injury. Coleman could be a depth player for a Chicago offensive line graded by Pro Football Focus as the league’s 17th best pass-blocking unit in 2021.

  • 49ers OT Shon Coleman has opted out of the 2020 season.
A cancer survivor, Coleman is likely a “high-risk” opt out. 2020 will be the third straight year Coleman fails to play a down for the 49ers. He missed all of 2019 with a devastating leg/ankle injury. Three months shy of his 29th birthday, Coleman doesn’t have much of an NFL future.

  • 49ers re-signed OT Shon Coleman to a one-year contract.
Coleman missed all of last season with a dislocated ankle. He’ll compete for one of the backup tackle jobs this summer.
  • 49ers placed OT Shon Coleman on injured reserve.
Coleman fractured his right fibula and dislocated his ankle in the preseason opener. He’ll be out for “several months” so we probably won’t see the swing tackle until the 2020 season.
  • 49ers OT Shon Coleman suffered a fractured right fibula and a dislocated ankle in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the injuries will shelve Coleman for “several months.” The swing tackle spent last year glued to the bench in San Francisco after starting all 16 games for the Browns during their 0-16 season in 2017. Beat reporter Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area suspects the Niners could reach out to free agent Garry Gilliam to fill the void left by Coleman.
  • Browns signed No. 76 overall pick OT Shon Coleman to a four-year contract.
Coleman has the look of a left tackle at 6-foot-6, 307 pounds, but he is a limited athlete who struggled in pass protection in college. He is a solid run blocker, however, and could have a future at guard. Already 24, that future needs to come quickly.
  • Browns second-year OL Shon Coleman is in the mix for the right tackle job.
Coleman split first-team OTA reps with Cam Erving. He was active for only seven games as a rookie, but held his own on limited snaps. The Browns improved their interior line with the addition of Kevin Zeitler, but right tackle remains a weak spot.
  • The Cleveland Plain Dealer gives Shon Coleman a slight edge for the starting right tackle job.
Coleman and Cam Erving split OTA reps. It’s a bad sign for Erving’s turnaround, but there’s been positive offseason reports on Coleman. The Browns’ right tackle competition should go deep into training camp.
  • 2016 third-rounder Shon Coleman will get the first crack at the Browns’ left tackle job.
The rest of the line is set with LG Joel Bitonio, C J.C. Tretter, RG Kevin Zeitler, and new RT Chris Hubbard, but the Browns are trying to replace retired LT Joe Thomas. Coleman has played right tackle his first two seasons and became a full-time starter last year, grading out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 68 tackle out of 83 qualifiers. The draft isn’t believed to be strong at tackle.
  • 49ers acquired OT Shon Coleman from the Browns for a 2019 seventh-round pick.
Coleman started every game for the Browns last year, but graded as one of the worst tackles in the league. He had been playing with third-stringers this preseason and was expected to get cut, so this is a win for the Browns. Coleman will back up LT Joe Staley in San Francisco.
