Already down Krul, Newcastle goalkeeper Elliot stretchered off for Ireland

The hits just keep on coming in Newcastle United’s potential run toward relegation.

Already down star goalkeeper Tim Krul for most of the year, the Magpies have seen Irish keeper Rob Elliot’s star rise in Krul’s stead.

Now, they may be without even Elliot, who may miss the rest of Newcastle’s season and the Euro.

From Sky Sports:

Republic boss Martin O’Neill was downcast as he revealed the early signs were not promising, with the indications that Elliot has suffered ligament damage.

He said: “He’s not great. He’s got a serious knee injury. It’s a real disappointment and obviously a dampener on the evening, particularly when he is getting his career together.”

Newcastle bought Karl Darlow from Nottingham Forest last season, and he’ll slot in for the Magpies if Elliot is down. Nineteen-year-old Freddie Woodman is the next option.
