Berahino gets first England call up; Walcott, Downing, Carrick back in

Berahino

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for the upcoming friendly with Scotland (if you can call it that...) and the 2016 European qualifier with Slovenia next week.

The big news was a first call up for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino who has been in fine form in the Premier League this season and is the leading English goalscorer in the PL. Other surprise inclusions were Stewart Downing and Michael Carrick who both played for England at the 2006 World Cup but have been out of the picture for quite some time.

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott also gets a call up, just a week after returning to action following nine months on the sidelines with a ruptured ACL.

Berahino, just 21-years-old, has scored seven goals in 10 games this season for the Baggies, plus he has an incredible record for England’s U-21’s with 13 goals in just 10 appearances. His inclusion will help inject pace and power to England’s front-line as Daniel Sturridge is once again missing through injury as the Liverpool man continues his comeback to fitness.

Below is the squad in full, as England aim to keep their 100 percent record in qualifying going.
