Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool’s “pain” will get worse before it’s better

Liverpool is stuck is in a rut. We all know that.

That fact hasn’t escaped manager Brendan Rodgers either, and bad news Liverpool fans: it ain’t over yet.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool’s home game vs. West Bromwich Albion (Watch live on NBCSN, 10 a.m. ET and online via Live Extra) on Saturday, Rodgers discussed the “pain” his side are going through after losing four times from their opening nine games this season.

Here’s what Rodgers had to say...

“I think the pain is for now,” Rodgers said. “I think it’s unfortunate. It’s hard for the supporters and I understand that. It must be so difficult at the moment to see a team that for 18 months has been so fluent and dynamic. Now they probably look and see a team with maybe no resemblance to that in many ways. I understand that and there is no-one more frustrated than myself. We look at our game, which is based a lot on possession, but we were also a big threat in transition when we won the ball back and we were on the break. We don’t look a threat on the break at the moment. We could argue that we don’t even play in transition. We’re getting no one in behind, no one breaking lines.”

Rodgers stated that things will only start to turn around once Daniel Sturridge, Joe Allen and Emre Can return from injury, plus the other new players settle in.

Liverpool’s manager, and their fans, will hope his side can deliver their first win in the Premier League since August when the Baggies head to Anfield on Saturday.
