Those Chelsea supporters hoping to see adventurous transfer David Luiz in the midfield rather than defense will be quite disappointed by Antonio Conte’s Wednesday interview on the team’s website.

The Italian manager says Luiz has returned to the Chelsea fold as a center back.

Speaking about the acquisitions of both Luiz and Marcos Alonso, Conte said both strengthen the club. He specifically mentioned Alonso being left-footed as important, and here are his thoughts on Luiz.

From ChelseaFC.com:

“I think David Luiz is a centre-back, he’s played a lot of games in that position,” he added. “I know sometimes he’s played as a central midfielder but in my mind the idea is to utilise him in the right position which, for me, is centre-back. He’s played with Chelsea previously and he will bring a good personality.”

Our own JPW shared his thoughts on how Luiz should be utilized by Conte here, and perhaps N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and company ease the risk of using Luiz at the heart of the defense. What do you think?
